Eurostars funding: Introduction mioty Class B

September 22, 2021

In the spring 2021 Eurostars funding call, a consortium of Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, Swissphone Wireless AG, and Swissphone Telecommunications GmbH, was granted funding. The funding enables Fraunhofer IIS to accelerate the further development of the mioty standard to reduce uplink latency to less than 2 sec and to reduce downlink latency to less than 15 seconds (Class B). The later will enable use cases such as controlling actuators, switches and machines via broadcast (control of all actuators via downlink) or via multicast (control of a group of actuators via downlink), as well as messaging.

The project covers the use case of lone worker protection, plus customer-specific use cases. As part of the project, Swissphone Wireless AG will develop the s.QUAD mioty pager in an ATEX version and integrate the new transmission modes in the s.QUAD and its mioty Base station MBS20. Swissphone Telecommunications GmbH will develop a mioty I/O bridge that will enable further use cases. The project starts in October 2021.

Alliance members sourcing Swissphone MBS20 base stations before the completion of the project will benefit from an upgrade once class B is ready. Evaluation kits can be ordered here
