mioty Hybrid Network ready for Smart City

Challenges

N-ERGIE supplies drinking water and energy to the city of Nuremberg, Germany, serving 546,000 inhabitants across 186 km². Building on its existing LoRaWAN® smart metering network, the utility is now seeking a scalable technology to extend its infrastructure to new use cases.

Solution

The solution was designed to deliver a scalable and interoperable metering ecosystem while leveraging N-ERGIE’s existing infrastructure.

At its core, IZAR IoT GATEWAY Premium devices were deployed, capable of seamlessly collecting both LoRaWAN® and mioty® data. Operating bidirectionally between sensors and the system, these gateways support wM-Bus, LoRaWAN®, and mioty®4OMS, known as the mioty standard optimized for metering applications.

To complement the network, 21,300 HYDRUS 2.0 ultrasonic water meters with mioty®4OMS were installed. In addition to precise consumption data, they provide valuable insights such as water temperature monitoring, household leakage alerts, and other advanced diagnostics.

  • Only 30 gateway units needed for deep-indoor coverage of the entire city of Nuremberg (500k inhabitants).
