Driving Efficiency in District Heating: mioty Alliance at the VDE Event „Thermische Netze“
octubre 2, 2026

How can digitalization make district heating networks more efficient, reliable, and future-proof? This was the central question at the recent VDE event „Thermische Netze – Digitalisieren in der Praxis“, where industry experts gathered to explore practical approaches to transforming thermal networks.
As heating networks become increasingly digitalized, reliable and scalable connectivity is critical to monitor network performance, manage data seamlessly, and optimize operations.
Strong Presence: The mioty Alliance Workshop
The mioty alliance was actively on-site, hosting an exclusive workshop alongside Sebastian Dörr from Diehl Metering. Under the title „Interoperabel, skalierbar, zukunftssicher: Digitalisierung von Wärmenetzen mit OMS Generation 5 und mioty“, the session demonstrated how open standards and advanced wireless connectivity successfully bridge the gap between smart metering and industrial IoT.
A Powerful Ecosystem in Action
One of the highlights of the event was the vibrant exchange with the broader mioty ecosystem. We were thrilled to meet and connect with our members—including baeren.io, N-ERGIE, Fraunhofer IIS, and Diehl Metering—showcasing their latest innovations and ongoing activities in smart metering, infrastructure digitalization, and robust IoT deployments.
Clear Guidance from AGFW
The AGFW (Energy Association for Heat, Cooling and CHP) also provided crucial orientation during the event by presenting its latest digitalization guideline for thermal networks. The guideline outlines the technologies best suited for digitalizing thermal infrastructure—and mioty proved to be an ideal fit, offering unmatched long-range coverage, massive scalability, and true interoperability for connecting sensors and measurement points across sprawling heating grids.
