Hybrid networks, large-scale deployments, cybersecurity and diversity: this year’s The Things Conference in Amsterdam highlighted how the IoT ecosystem is evolving to meet real-world challenges. With more than 2,500 attendees, 180+ speakers and a packed agenda of talks, workshops and live demonstrations, The Things Conference 2026 once again brought together the innovators, solution providers and technology leaders shaping the future of IoT. Across the event, one message stood out: the next generation of IoT will be built on collaboration, interoperability and technologies working together to solve real-world challenges.

A Growing Role in the IoT Ecosystem

That evolution was evident throughout the conference and so was the growing presence of mioty®. Alliance members including Diehl Metering, Fraunhofer IIS, Miromico, Kilo IoT, Sentinum, RAKwireless, Stackforce, SenArch, STMicroelectronics, Silicon Labs, akenza.io, Nichicon and CyberWhiz contributed to discussions, demonstrations and exchanges across the event.

The Rise of Hybrid Connectivity

A clear theme emerged from many conversations: the future of IoT is not about choosing a single technology, but about combining the right technologies for the right use case. This was reflected in Diehl Metering’s presentation on hybrid networks, showing how mioty® and LoRaWAN can complement each other to create greater value for customers. Kilo IoT expanded on this idea during a hands-on workshop, demonstrating how hybrid endpoints can be built to leverage the strengths of both worlds.

The reality of large-scale deployments was another key topic. During a roundtable discussion, network operators shared lessons learned from mass rollouts and the challenges of meeting increasingly demanding customer SLA expectations. The conversation reinforced a growing industry understanding that resilience, scalability and flexibility are becoming just as important as connectivity itself.

From Connectivity to Trust

Beyond network performance, cybersecurity took center stage. On an IoT Security Foundation panel, Çağatay Büyüktopçu from CyberWhiz discussed how IoT manufacturers can prepare for the Cyber Resilience Act, addressing topics such as vulnerability management, reporting requirements and incident disclosure obligations. As connected devices continue to scale, security is rapidly moving from a technical consideration to a business imperative.

The conference also reflected the continued expansion of the IoT ecosystem. Alongside LPWAN technologies such as mioty, cellular IoT solutions were increasingly visible, highlighting a market that is embracing complementary technologies and connectivity options to address diverse application requirements.

Strengthening the IoT Community

And while technology remained at the heart of the event, people remained at the heart of innovation. Annalena Zottmann represented the mioty Alliance in the Women in IoT panel, contributing to an inspiring discussion on diversity, leadership and the importance of empowering more women to help shape the future of the IoT industry.

Looking Back

The Things Conference 2026 made one thing clear: as IoT deployments continue to scale, collaboration, complementary technologies and strong ecosystems matter more than ever. We are proud to see mioty contributing to these conversations and helping shape the next chapter of connected innovation.
