The mioty editorial team (met) reached out to a pioneer who has been with mioty since its inception: Philipp Miesen, member of the board of the mioty alliance, public & regulatory affairs.

met: What is your role at the mioty alliance and how can members reach you?

Philipp: WIKA has been involved in the mioty alliance from the very beginning as one of its founding members. In this context, I have the privilege to represent WIKA on the Executive Board of the mioty alliance, currently with a focus on public and regulatory affairs. This is an exciting field of work for me, as it connects industrial IoT, trusted data, standardization, sovereignty and resilient infrastructures. Members can best reach me via LinkedIn.

met: Talking IoT, what initially sparked your passion for the Internet of Things?

Philipp: For me, IoT has always been about making complex systems more understandable. My first professional connection to this topic came from monitoring and safety-related applications in nuclear power plants. Later, at WIKA, this developed into a broader view: how sensor data can become trusted data and create value for industrial processes, infrastructure and decision-making.

met: What do you enjoy outside of work that keeps you curious and creative?

Philipp: My family is very important to me. Beyond that, I enjoy photography – both analogue and digital – and cycling, especially through nature. Both keep me attentive to details, light, movement and perspective.

met: If you could place a sensor anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Philipp: I would place it where physical reality meets critical decision-making – for example in water, energy or industrial infrastructure. The first mile of data is where trust begins. If the data at the source is not reliable, auditable and resilient, everything built on top of it becomes weaker.

met: What is your favorite superpower of the mioty technology?

Philipp: At the beginning, I was fascinated by telegram splitting as a very elegant physical principle. It creates strong resilience against interference and enables robust communication even in challenging environments.

Today, I would add another layer: mioty’s strength is not only technical performance, but also its governance and standardization model. It connects robust first-mile connectivity with an open, standardized and auditable ecosystem approach – including the legal anchoring that trusted industrial data chains increasingly require.
