On 7 May 2026, the Empowering Energy Infrastructure Workshop of the AIOTI Alliance in Brussels brought together leading stakeholders from the energy, IoT and communication network sectors. The event created a collaborative environment where researchers, industry innovators and technology experts explored how next‑generation energy systems can evolve through smart energy architectures, 5G/6G convergence, edge intelligence, and the emerging CEI‑Sphere Energy Sphere.

5G/6G and Edge Intelligence for Smart Energy Infrastructure

A highlight of the day was a panel discussion featuring Philipp Miesen from the mioty alliance, WIKA, who joined experts to examine how advanced connectivity and edge intelligence are reshaping smart energy systems. The conversation focused on three interconnected themes: improving energy efficiency in 5G/6G networks, enabling AI‑driven optimisation across energy and network operations, and addressing cross‑cutting challenges such as data and AI governance, cybersecurity risks, and operational resilience. The panel made clear that the future of energy infrastructure will depend on tightly integrated, intelligent and secure systems capable of supporting global-scale transformation.

From Connectivity to Energy to IoT

Across all sessions, participants shared a strong commitment to building sustainable, resilient and interoperable digital infrastructures. The workshop underscored how cross‑sector collaboration – from connectivity to energy to IoT – is essential for accelerating innovation and shaping the trusted “first mile” of tomorrow’s energy landscape.

The full workshop report, presentations and additional remarks – including insights on the path from 5G/6G to the Trusted First Mile – are now available.
