Who Is mioty – Insights From the Inside: René Dünkler
June 5, 2026

The mioty editorial team (met) reached out to a pioneer who has been with mioty since its inception: René Dünkler, Marketing & Business Development mioty alliance.
met: What is your role at the mioty alliance and how can members reach you?
René: Since I also handle marketing and business development for mioty at Fraunhofer IIS, I naturally serve on the corresponding committee of the mioty alliance. There, I support various events and marketing activities as well as public‑affairs matters.
met: Talking IoT, what initially sparked your passion for the Internet of Things?
René: The idea that everyday things can be connected wirelessly has fascinated me ever since I started working at Fraunhofer. Back then, people still used terms like ‘cyber‑physical systems.’ Now, with mioty, we have a technology that makes this connectivity cost‑efficient, energy‑saving, and smart – opening up countless new possibilities in the IoT space.
met: What do you enjoy outside of work that keeps you curious and creative?
René: A triad of passions: football – FC Bayern -, festivals – EDM/techno and rap -, and exotic expeditions – including Antarctica and more.
met: If you could place a sensor anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
René: I would place a sensor at what is likely the coldest uninhabited place on earth – a plateau in East Antarctica near the South Pole. Simply to check whether mioty works there as well.
met: What is your favorite superpower of the mioty technology?
René: Scalability – because that’s what makes many applications possible in the first place, and affordable.
met: René, what brought you to mioty, and what do you feel you really bring to the alliance?
René: I’ve been working in technology marketing at Fraunhofer IIS since 1999. I’m involved in mioty from the very beginning – with the first marketing activities starting in 2016. And I’m part of the mioty alliance since day one. I live for mioty.
