Who Is mioty® - Insights From the Inside

marzo 7, 2026

The mioty® editorial team (met) explored this question with Annalena Zottmann, Vice-Chair of the Business Development & Marketing Committee at the mioty Alliance.

met: What is your role at the mioty Alliance and how can members reach you?

Annalena: I serve as the Vice-Chair of the Business Development & Marketing Committee at the mioty® Alliance. In this role, I help shape the strategic direction of the ecosystem, support members in developing impactful use cases, and advocate for technologies that enable more sustainable and resource-efficient IoT solutions - especially in areas like water protection and environmental monitoring. Members can always reach me via LinkedIn, email, or through the mioty® Alliance member channels. I’m always happy to exchange ideas and collaborate.

met: Talking IoT, what initially sparked your passion for the Internet of Things?

Annalena: My passion for IoT began during my time at Red Bull Media House, where we used sensors to capture and transmit real‑time data from athletes - everything from their physical condition to emotional states. Seeing how raw data could be transformed into powerful visual stories made me realize that IoT is really about making the invisible visible. That experience taught me that the true value of IoT lies in visualization: Uncovering the crucial signals, presenting them clearly, and enabling smart decisions. Today, I apply the same mindset to environmental topics like water protection and sustainability - using IoT data to highlight what needs our attention most urgently.

met: What do you enjoy outside of work that keeps you curious and creative?

Annalena: Outside of work, my inspiration comes directly from my horse and my dog.  Spending time outdoors with them - riding through forests, walking near rivers and fields - makes me deeply aware of how precious and fragile our natural resources are. Seeing drought effects firsthand, noticing drying streams or stressed vegetation, reminds me why sustainable technology truly matters. These moments keep me grounded, curious, and committed to solutions that help protect our ecosystems.

met: If you could place a sensor anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Annalena: I would place sensors in water‑scarce regions - areas where monitoring groundwater levels, soil moisture, or early signs of drought can make a real difference. Reliable, low‑power monitoring can help cities, utilities, farmers, and environmental organizations understand how water resources evolve and react early to shortages. For me, this is one of the most meaningful applications of IoT: using data to protect environment, support biodiversity and make climate resilience measurable.

met: What is your favorite superpower of the mioty® technology?

Annalena: mioty®’s superpower is its ability to deliver robust, ultra‑efficient data transmission at massive scale - with minimal energy consumption. This makes it perfect for smart metering and city applications where devices need to run for years, often in remote areas, without maintenance. Whether it’s tracking groundwater levels, monitoring rivers, measuring soil moisture, or managing water infrastructure: mioty® enables sustainable IoT networks that help protect the planet’s most critical resources.

Keen on more mioty® insights? In the new whitepaper “Empowering Utilities With mioty® 4OMS”, Annalena – who also serves as Business Development Manager at Diehl Metering – shows how this powerful combination enables utilities to deploy scalable, secure, and cost-effective smart metering and IoT networks, providing a future-ready foundation for the next generation of metering.
