Highlights of the Fraunhofer Tech X in Brussels

9 12 月, 2025

Inspired by IoT & mioty®, the Fraunhofer Tech X exhibition and round table, attended by high-profile

representatives from the industry, the EU, and the EP, provided an excellent opportunity for information,

exchange, and networking.

The informative and entertaining event was hosted by Peter Hedberg, General Manager of the mioty® Alliance.

The focus was on a roundtable discussion with Rolf Riemenschneider (Head of Sector IoT, DG CNECT, European

Commission/EU), Matthias Ecke (Member of the European Parliament/EP), Pascal Belmin (Vice President and

Head of EU Aviation & Regulatory Affairs at Airbus), and Joseph Bernhard (Head of Department Self Powered

radio Systems, Fraunhofer IIS).

The discussion emphasized the urgency of a sovereign European IoT ecosystem, highlighting sustainability,

productivity, and defense as critical areas, all requiring vast sensor data and secure systems. European

sovereignty is essential to avoid risks of data theft and service disruption. Stronger public-private investments

are needed with easier access to centralized funding. Procurement policies favoring EU products with

interoperable solutions like mioty® - the resilient IoT ecosystem made in Europe for Europe - are playing a key

role. All agreed Europe must control IoT components end-to-end, while promoting mioty® through visibility,

procurement reform, and EU-level advocacy.

Verena Fennemann, Head of Fraunhofer EU Office, gave a brief introduction to the mioty® technology, and

Joseph Bernhard, Head of Department Self Powered radio Systems, Fraunhofer IIS, provided a strategic overview of ongoing work to reinforce Europe’s cyberresilience.

Among other things Fraunhofer IIS showcased a solar powered gateway and numerous use cases for

smart farming and environmental monitoring. Swissphone showed critical infrastructure cases that

rely on mioty®. Diehl Metering showcased smart metering and the values the mioty® ecosystem bring to this vertical.
